IARSLCE Conference Proceedings Editorial Fellows Call for Applications
The International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE) is soliciting applications for 2012/2013 Conference Proceedings Editorial Fellows. The Conference Proceedings Editorial Fellows (EFs) co-create and publish the new online IARSLCE Annual Conference Proceedings. The Proceedings is a collaboration of the IARSLCE Publications Committee and the Graduate Student Network.

This publication is intended to increase the public visibility of research related to service-learning and community engagement and to facilitate communication and collaboration among researchers and practitioner-scholars. The Proceedings includes summaries of the sessions from this year's conference and invites dialogue about them, and, as such, it provides enhanced access to scholars and scholarship from around the world. The online format allows for interactivity before, during, and after the conference.

In addition to the Proceedings publication, the Editorial Fellow role offers professional development, collaboration and co-construction of scholarly products, and participation in an international learning community. The emphasis is on creating an intentional process-oriented opportunity that attends to community-building, reflection, and shared decision-making.
The Editorial Fellows are an international cohort of colleagues; two Senior Editorial Fellows and two established practitioner-scholar Editors guide and support this project. Each year a new call for applications is announced, so the team will always include incoming EFs, as well as EFs who have participated in the process the year prior. EFs will be appointed and begin their work in late February.

Editorial Fellows Commitment:
  • The EF role is a two-year commitment open to masters and doctoral students. Individuals are encouraged to apply even if they are in the last year of their program.
  • The range of responsibilities to be undertaken by EFs includes: editing conference proposals, designing creative expressions of scholarly work, corresponding with session facilitators, reflecting critically on the collaborative process, promoting and disseminating the Proceedings, and interacting with and supporting one another.
  • Previous editing experience is desirable but not required. Attention to detail is important.
  • EFs need to:
  1. be able to participate in regular Skype calls (monthly at first and increasing in frequency as determined by the group);
  2. actively engage in online communication and decision-making (e.g email, wiki, other);
  3. possess a learning-orientation toward this process; and
  4. follow through on commitments and meet deadlines.
  • Proceedings will be published online prior to the fall conference, no later than mid-August 2012, with much of the editorial work occurring in May through August.

  • motivation for applying,
  • professional/personal learning goals for this process,
  • scholarly/research interests, and
  • relevant experience.
